Join us for the Run for the Rainforest 5K Fun Run! The event kicks off at 10:00 AM at the Vilas Park Shelter, where you can grab a cup of coffee, snacks and pick up your t-shirt. The run/walk will start at 10:30AM, although people are welcome to join whenever. Participants will follow a 5K route through nearby parks and neighborhoods before finishing back at the shelter for food, refreshments, and a relaxed community hangout. Come run, walk, cheer, and help support rainforest conservation!
Why Run?
All proceeds from the Run for the Rainforest 5K will support Ceiba’s urgent campaign to protect El Pahuma Orchid Reserve, a 925-acre cloud forest in Ecuador that provides critical habitat for endangered wildlife and clean water for nearby communities. After 25 years of conservation, Ceiba’s landmark conservation easement with the Lima family has come to an end. Now, with proposed mining concessions threatening the reserve, the Lima family has asked Ceiba to help secure the forest’s future. Together, we are working to permanently protect El Pahuma by purchasing the highest priority forested areas and enrolling them in Ecuador’s National System of Protected Areas, where it will remain under local management and the Lima family will continue as its stewards. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the first phase of this effort. Every registration helps ensure this irreplaceable cloud forest remains protected for generations to come.
